Trustee Jay Chen

Jay Chen is a Navy intelligence officer, small business owner, and your trustee for Mt. San Antonio College Area 5, serving Hacienda Heights, La Puente, Valinda and Avocado Heights.
A 36-year resident of Trustee Area 5, Trustee Chen attended local public schools in Hacienda La Puente Unified School District and earned an Navy ROTC scholarship to attend Harvard University. After graduating from Harvard with honors he worked for a global strategy consulting firm advising Fortune 500 companies, then started his own small business in the San Gabriel Valley.
Trustee Chen served as a school board member for Hacienda La Puente Unified School District from 2007 to 2015, and in 2015 was honored to be elected the Mt. SAC Trustee for Area 5. He was re-elected in 2020. His deep roots in the district and commitment to education have been recognized by various leaders; he was Supervisor Janice Hahn's appointee to the County Library Commission and Speaker Anthony Rendon's appointee to the California Student Opportunity and Access Program.
In 2019 Trustee Chen was mobilized to Southwest Asia in support of Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve. As a branch chief, he managed a team that provided critical intelligence for the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. He returned in August of 2020 to his amazing wife Karen and his two little boys, and to continue his service to the community.
